Aisha Shujoon Mohamed has resigned from the executive committee of the Bar Council.

She was appointed to the Bar Council after winning the election on July 14.

The Bar Council confirmed in a tweet that she has resigned from the executive committee on Tuesday.

The parliament approved Dr. Azmiralda Zahir and Aisha Shujoon Mohamed at Tuesday’s hearing.

Judicial Service Commission (JSC) approved their names on August 26 after interviewing all candidates who applied for the vacant seats.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih nominated Dr. Azmiralda Zahir and Aisha Shujoon after ratifying the 3rd amendment to the Judicature Act, on July 23, allowing the increase of the number of Supreme Court justices from five to seven.

Once appointed, Dr. Zahir and Shujoon will become the first female judges of the Maldives Supreme Court.
