The parliament approved Dr. Azmiralda Zahir and Aisha Shujoon Mohamed with 62 votes in favor

The parliament has approved President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s nominations for the two new seats at the Supreme Court.

The parliament approved Dr. Azmiralda Zahir and Aisha Shujoon Mohamed at Tuesday’s hearing with 62 votes in favor, one vote against, and one abstention.

Judicial Service Commission (JSC) approved their names on August 26 after interviewing all candidates who applied for the vacant seats.

President Solih nominated Dr. Azmiralda Zahir and Aisha Shujoon after ratifying the 3rd amendment to the Judicature Act, on July 23, allowing the increase of the number of Supreme Court justices from five to seven.
