A video of a waste disposal worker from Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) being assaulted by a local man in capital city Male' has gone viral.
The video, circulating on social media on Saturday, shows a local man beating the worker, in uniform, while using foul language.
The WAMCO worker is seen attempting to stop the man, telling him to “stop or I will call the police”, who continues to beat him with a PVC pipe before walking away.
The user who posted the video on Twitter tagged the Maldives Police Service, asking for immediate action against the assailant who has come under fire with several users who have asked the police to take action “before they take the matter in to their own hands”.
Some, calling the actions of the man “inhumane”, have stated that being an employee of WAMCO does not give anyone the authority to treat them as seen in the video.
The incident occurred in capital city Malé.
