Ali Hashim has been nominated for the post of governor at the Maldives Monetary Authority.
President’s Office spokesperson, Ibrahim Hood revealed this via Twitter on Wednesday, noting the President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has forwarded Hashim’s name for Majlis approval.
Hashim had previously served as the Minister of Finance from 2008-2010.
The post of governor has been vacant since Ahmed Naseer’s resignation in July.
His resignation came after accusations of unduly influencing MMA’s Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU).
Naseer denies the allegations, saying that he is being framed by those that had actually been involved in the biggest graft case in the country’s history. He added that the central bank’s leadership is still filled with those involved in the embezzlement.
