MRM officially applies for registration
The party was formed after the go-ahead on 19 February

Maldives Reform Movement (MRM) has officially applied for registration, at the Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM).
While members presented the member forms on Thursday, a total of 3,313 forms were submitted.
Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom announced his decision to form the party at the end of January.
Speaking to media, former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom’s daughter and Minister of Arts, Culture and Heritage Yumna Maumoon stated that the forms were submitted with the support and cooperation from a lot of supporters.
She said that the party will always work to reform the country and that it will join hands with other parties in order to work for the greater good of the nation.
The first political party formed under Gayoom’s leadership was Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP) back during his tenure. Following disputes within the party, Gayoom left DRP and began work to form his second political party, now opposition Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM). Gayoom was stripped from his position as party leader following a dispute with his half-brother and then President Abdulla Yameen, following which his supporters broke away from PPM, forming the Maumoon Reform Movement (MRM).
The party gained 3,000 members before the deadline it was given by EC, set at 27 August.
At first, approval was sought by Higher Education Minister Ibrahim Hassan to form MRM, in February. However, it was withdrawn and Minister Yumna had requested approval for a second time in May.
