The Tourism Ministry has not been instructed to carry out any actions in connection to the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) embezzlement scandal, says Tourism Minister Ali Waheed.
While the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is investigating the embezzlement case, Minister Waheed told the press on Wednesday that the investigations into the case of graft are going full speed ahead and that the corruption watchdog is also investigating the case closely.
Further, he assured the public that the ministry will provide full cooperation on its part, throughout the investigations. However, he revealed that ACC has not yet instructed the ministry to take any actions.
“I request ACC and other institutions to forward their verdicts on the case on those who have been negligent, negligence cases and to complete the court procedure. We haven’t yet received any orders”Ali Waheed![]()
Further, he said that the Asset Recovery Committee has also asked relevant bodies to inform the ministry to take actions on those who have been found guilty of corruption.
Details are to be shared with the parliament’s financial committee on Wednesday.
In addition, the minister said that the investigations need cooperation from the judiciary and that the ministry does not wish to take actions in a way that hinders a particular person’s rights. As such, he assured that they will be taking just action under the law with no regards to the person’s political beliefs.
