President urges to extend festive Eid spirit “to all members of the community"

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has appealed to all to extend the festive spirit “to all members of the community,” in his greetings to commemorate Eid al-Adha.

He also reminded all members of the society of their obligations to each other, and emphasized that the “felicitous atmosphere of Eid provides a rare opportunity to reach out to loved ones and reinvigorate involvement in one another’s lives, in the communal and charitable spirit cherished in Islam.”

The president added that every Eid “is one replete with deep symbolism and meaning” and that Muslims must “do their utmost to spread joy and kindness through society.”

Furthermore, President Solih asked the citizens “to reflect on the holiness of this Eid, [and] uphold the virtues of justice and fairness in their dealings with each other.”

He emphasized that all citizens “should strive to present the same standards of equity and integrity to others as they hope to receive themselves to fully embrace the true spirit of this sacred holiday.”

In addition, the president also extended greetings to all Maldivians in Mecca, Saudi Arabia to perform hajj pilgrimage, as well as “to all kindred members of the Muslim Ummah.”

President Solih had inquired on the well-being of the pilgrims and their journey so far, during a phone call with representatives from all Maldivian Hajj Groups in Mecca.
