President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih will spend half of the Eid holidays in Sri Lanka, his office has announced.

Spokesperson at the President’s Office, Ibrahim Hood told RaajjeMV that the president is to depart to Sri Lanka "towards the end of next week" with First Lady Fazna Ahmed.

President Solih traveled to Sri Lanka this February, on his maiden visit to the country since assuming office in November 2018, and was the chief guest at the country’s 71st Independence Day celebrations; it was also the first time a Maldivian president attended the neighboring country’s Independence Day celebrations as guest of honour.

The president’s trip to Sri Lanka this month will mark his fourth trip to the island country since his overwhelming win in September’s presidential elections.

He first traveled to the neighboring nation as president-elect, to accompany former President Mohamed Nasheed back to the country, after nearly three years in exile.

President Solih also traveled to Lanka on an unofficial visit in January.
