Parliament’s government oversight committee has decided to summon senior officials of the transport ministry, to check on its latest projects.
Committee chair, West-Maafannu constituency MP Mohamed Falaah noted that transport ministry officials were summoned previously as well but that they were out of the country and unable to attend the meeting.
While notices are to be sent “within two days,” Falaah said that they will most likely be presented after the Eid holidays; Eid al-Adha holidays starts on Thursday and will end on August 17.
The purpose of the meeting is to review its current work and to learn details of ongoing and upcoming projects.
Last week, parliament decided to give a five-day notice to government officials that are summoned to committees.
While the government oversight committee is to meet transport ministry officials, Transport Minister Fathmath Nahula will be questioned at Wednesday’s sitting.
Kaashidhoo constituency MP Abdulla Jabir had proposed to question her, regarding parking violation stickers being issued without providing a solution to the capital’s parking space issue.
The People’s Majlis has the power to “summon any person to appear before it to give evidence under oath, or to produce documents. Any person who is questioned by the People’s Majlis shall answer to the best of his knowledge and ability.” The ministers are given a 14-day notice to prepare for the questions.
