Maldivians celebrated International Day of Friendship in capital city Male’ on Tuesday afternoon.
Vice President Faisal Naseem and cabinet ministers joined the celebrations with students at Republic Square.
Senior government officials, as well as military and police officers were also present at the event, where participants joined hands while waving the Maldivian flag.
The purpose of Friendship Day is to promote friendships and peace across cultures. The UN declared Friendship day on 30 July.
The event is celebrated by exchanging gifts such as friendship bands and flowers as well as planning outings.
