A solution will be provided to some of the concerns and issues facing those living in capital city Malé’s suburban extension Hulhumalé in the coming week, revealed Malé City Mayor Shifa Mohamed.

Speaking to RaajjeMV, Shifa stated that the council is working with the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) in order to resolve some of the issues residents had noted during a meeting on Wednesday night.

The main concern of Hulhumalé residents are issues they face in using the suburbs beaches as local cafés continue to use them for business purposes. Further, residents face issues regarding flat maintenance and congestion.

Also, residents shared concerns regarding lack of space in the schools. They also said that their concerns do not reach seniors at the HDC when they reach out to them for a solution.

Having listened to these concerns, Shifa said that the council prioritizes listening to the people and addressing issues at hand in order to provide efficient solutions. She added that solutions do not have to be limited within the HDC alone.

Stressing on efforts the council had put in to meet with the residents of Hulhumalé in the past seven years, Shifa said that the previous government’s negligence towards the people’s concerns had been an obstacle in addressing them.

Further, Shifa highlighted that several such meetings to address the people’s concerns will be held with all districts in the capital city in the near future.

The council had recently met with Villimalé residents as well.
