President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has decided to submit the papers of the “United Nation’s Convention on International Settlement agreements resulting from Mediation” following suggestions from his Cabinet of Ministers.

The text is to be submitted for parliament approval and it aims to facilitate a smooth trade flow between signatory states by standardizing international commercial dispute settlement mechanism from the agreements compiled between states that are pertinent to commercial dispute resolution, revealed the President’s Office.

It also revealed that the convention was established by the General Assembly resolution 73/198 and was passed on 28 December.

The convention was passed at a sitting of the United Nation’s General Assembly.

A ceremony to sign the treaty will be held in Singapore on 7 August.
