The structural work of 64 of the 100 housing units being developed in Th Vilufushi has been completed, says Minister of Housing and Urban Development Athifa Shakoor.

The Minister said this at Monday’s sitting, responding to Vilufushi MP Hassan Afeef’s inquiry on the progress of the Vilufushi housing development project.

Minister Athifa said that roofs have been placed over 32 housing units.

Regarding complaints of the design of the housing units, Minister Athifa said the design is consistent with other government housing projects and that the housing ministry has not received any such complaints from Vilufushi residents. She added that changing the design is no longer viable due to the added cost but that the design of future housing projects can be changed if people have complaints.

She said that 450 housing units from the previous government had been unfinished when the new administration took over and that the new government had to begin renovation work because many of the incomplete units had been left neglected and in disarray.
