ACC investigates ex-MPs for suspicious transactions

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has stated that it is investigating former parliamentarians for corruption.

ACC President Muavviz Rasheed told RaajjeMV that the Financial Intelligence Unit has reported suspicious bank transactions involving MPs of the previous parliament.

RaajjeMV understands that some of the former MPs are members of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and that one case is regarding an apartment that former Villimale’ MP Nihan Hussain Manik bought and registered using his son’s name.

ACC is also investigating former Funadhoo MP Abdul Raheem Abdulla and his wife for buying two apartments in Rehendhi Flat with MVR 9 million. A letter from FW Constructions to Rehendhi Flat’s parent company has been leaked on social media regarding the finalization of the registration process. Abdul Raheem has said that he is not keeping the sale of the apartments a secret and that it was completely lawful.

Former Madaveli MP Muaz Mohamed Rasheed is also being investigating for making a suspicious online transaction to complete the down payment for an apartment. Muaz told RaajjeMV that he was summoned to ACC but could not provide any details, as the investigation is ongoing. Later on Twitter, Muaz said that he completed the down payment with money from his own account and pension.

The ACC President said former MPs are also being investigated for their alleged involvement in the MMPRC embezzlement and other cases.

He also said that ACC is mainly investigating the unknown source of the money used to make expensive purchases.
