Officials that are found to have given false statements in parliament will be criminally investigated, says Speaker Mohamed Nasheed.

At Wednesday’s sitting, Speaker Nasheed said that committee chairs have complained that senior officials of some institutions have been giving false and unclear information during questioning.

Addressing senior company and government officials, Speaker Nasheed said that giving false information at the parliament is a crime and that those accused will be investigated and their cases sent for prosecution.

The parliament’s 17 committees have been summoning various senior officials to take statements for various cases, including MMPRC, the largest case of embezzlement in Maldives’ history.
