Maldives Police Service (MPS) has reported another death caused by a falling cement bag from a construction site.
A 24-year-old Bangladeshi citizen who was a worker at the site succumbed to injuries on Wednesday evening.
Police revealed that the man died after being hit by a cement bag that feel from a building near Central Park, being constructed by Jaah Investment Private Limited in Hulhumalé, capital city Malé’s suburban extension.
While doctors had pronounced the man dead-on-arrival at the hospital, relevant authorities have taken on investigations into the case.
In a similar incident last December, an eight-year-old girl died after being crushed by a cement bag that fell from a construction site managed by W Construction.
While the safety at construction sites has become a rising concern in the country, the Ministry of National Planning and Infrastructure earlier publicized new safety regulations for construction companies after President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih ordered for thorough evaluations to be conducted at construction sites.
Police had concluded their investigation into the case and forwarded the case to the Prosecutor General’s office in February and the charges were raised against the six from W Construction in late February.
