Parliament’s judiciary committee has decided to summon Prosecutor General Aishath Bisham.

While she is to be presented to the committee on July 16, it is to decide on the questions on Monday.

At Sunday’s committee meeting, Thulhadhoo constituency MP Hisaan Hussain proposed to question the PG regarding an agreement signed with China’s Prosecutor General's Office in 2017, to train Maldivian officials.

Endorsing Hisaan’s proposal, West-Henveiru constituency MP Hassan Latheef highlighted the need to inquire on any other such training agreements.

He said that Maldives needs training from places that practice democracy, adding that he does not believe that there is a need to conduct a prosecutors’ training in China.

Also at the meeting, Fonadhoo constituency MP Moosa Siraj noted that a number of unlawful activities had been conducted since Bisham was appointed as PG, adding that she should clear these allegations up.

Bisham was appointed to the post by former President Abdulla Yameen, on 24th November 2015.
