People's Majlis
MPs asked not to disclose personal details of victims and witnesses

This is to protect their “reputation and dignity"

Members of the People’s Majlis have been asked to refrain from releasing personal information of victims and witnesses, during deliberations.

In a statement issued via Twitter on Tuesday, the parliament administration urged MPs to refrain from releasing identities and personal information of victims and witnesses during sittings and committee meetings, so as to protect their “reputation and dignity.”

It further noted that this is also to protect them from any possible dangers.

While the parliament administration had made this appeal, its human rights and gender committee is currently conducting an inspection of the various special-needs institutes in the country. In addition, a whistleblower protection law is currently being deliberated as well.

Recently, the gender minister has been under fire for disclosing sensitive details in 14-year-old Shaim Abdulla’s case. Shaim went missing while under state care, in June. He was found on July 1.
