For the first time in Maldives, a team of female firefighters is being trained by the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL).
This was revealed by MACL through a tweet posted on Sunday which reads that the first batch of the female firefighters departed to Indonesia to participate in the Basic Airport Rescue & Fire Fighting Course to be held in Indonesia.
The two-month course is joined by 12 local female firefighters and they will be joined by seven male firefighters in the course.
While this has been described by the company as an achievement in their effort to balance gender gap, the training will take place at Indonesia’s Palembang Aviation Training Academy, MACL revealed.
Throughout the course, the Maldives team will be extensively trained to extinguish hazardous fires that may threaten the environment, lives and property as well.
