The parliament’s human rights and gender committee’s first visit has been to the Home for People with Special Needs in K. Guraidhoo.
Committee Chair MP Jeehan Mahmood tweeted about their visit on Thursday.
In the tweet, MP Jeehan said the visit is part of their work to address the rights of the elderly, and the mentally and physically disabled under state care.
Speaking to RaajjeMV, MP Jeehan said that all parliament committees are currently working on the previously neglected reports and complaints.
She said that, since the human rights committee’s first report is on the Home for People with Special Needs, the members wish to visit the center as part of their assessment, in order to go out and work closely with the people.
She said that their assessment is an emergency motion and that their report will be provided to the relevant institutions.
