Fazeel's abduction case forwarded for prosecution

Maldives Police Service (MPS) has forwarded the case against Mohamed Fazeel -arrested over an abduction case- for prosecution.
Police said that the case was sent to the Prosecutor General (PG) Office on Sunday.
Fazeel was arrested on April 6, over the abduction of a 44-year-old in Gan island of Laamu atoll. Police said that the man was threatened and mugged at knifepoint.
While two of the abductors were arrested the next day, on May 3, while Fazeel was arrested while in hiding in the capital city’s suburban district Hulhumalé three days later.
Fazeel is also a suspect in the disappearance of 19-year-old Aminath Shima Nafiz.
Shima was traveling on a dinghy with Fazeel when it overturned, on February 22. He is to have placed her on top of the overturned dinghy before swimming to a nearby resort for help; however, she has been missing since.
Fazeel and two others were arrested in March, while trying to flee with Shima’s younger sister. They were released in April.
