Deputy Speaker, Eva Abdulla has presided over a parliament sitting for the first time, since being elected to the post.
As per law, the deputy will preside over a sitting when the speaker is unable to.
The North-Galolhu constituency MP took over the sitting during the debate on the Legal Profession Bill, for about thirty minutes.
This is the first time a woman has presided over a parliament sitting, in the country’s recent history.
However, she is the second woman to have led a sitting, with the first being then-MP Aneesa Ahmed in 2008.
Eva was first elected as the Galolhu-South constituency MP in the 17th parliament tenure, and has since been seen as a prominent member.
