Criminal Court has on Thursday released the man who was arrested for sexually assaulting two children in May.
The man was released as the court had “no further investigations” to conduct in the case, revealed the Department of Judicial Administration (DJA).
Faisal Adam, Spokesperson at the DJA, revealed that it is clear that there is no further investigation to conduct through the Investigation Officer. Maldives Police Service had during the hearing stated that his remand may not be extended further, due to threats to his health.
The 19-year-old was arrested for sexually assaulting a six-year-old and an eight-year-old on 25 May, under a court order.
Hulhumale Magistrate Court initially remanded him by 12 days on 27 May.
A video clip of the man circulated in social media. The video in question shows him being publicly humiliated by some individuals. He was stripped down and forced to walk on the streets of Hulhumale.
