Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has revealed that incidents reported at sea have increased due to the current weather.
Most of the country has been experiencing thunderstorms and heavy showers in the past few days.
MNDF said that a safari boat ‘Carpe Diem’ docked at Nalaafushi island in Meemu atoll, had run aground due to an issue with the anchor. The incident was reported at around 6:45am on Tuesday.
MNDF said that there were 13 crew members- eight Maldivians and five expatriate workers- onboard at the time of the incident, as well as 17 guests.
MNDF has also located “Ufuriyaa,” which was reported missing after departing to Addu City from the capital on Monday.
The boat was located around 10:30pm, 31 nautical miles out of Gan island of Laamu atoll. The boat had been drifting after an engine failure.
MNDF said that the dhoni has been set adrift since, as its owner was unable to find a vessel to tow it, and because it was drifting out of Maldivian waters.
The dhoni was released around 57 nautical miles east of Gan island, at around 6:30am. All crew members were taken to Kahdhoo island.
MNDF has also been active in various islands, as some of them face flooding and sea swells due to the rough weather.
