The National Disaster Management Center has warned the public to be prepared for possible flooding due to the heavy rain in some atolls.
In a press release on Monday, the authority predicts that 13 atolls between Kaafu and Seenu atolls will experience heavy rain for six hours and flooding.
These atolls are Kaafu, Alif Alif, Alif Dhaalu, Vaavu, Meemu, Faafu, Dhaalu, Thaa, Gaafu Alif, Gaafu Dhaalu, Fuvahmulah City and Addu City. The authority predicts that this region will experience rain and flooding from 3:00pm to 9pm on Monday.
Speaking at a press conference, the authority’s deputy chief executive Umar Fikry said that people should place barriers to place cement bags flooding in their houses and safeguard their valuables and protect electrical equipment. Sea travelers are also advised to be cautious.
Maldives Meteorological Service has predicted heavy rain and thunderstorms in various parts of the country, especially the central and southern regions.
