People’s Majlis has released a book which details all the material and procedures carried out by the outgoing 18th Parliament.
The book was launched during the orientation program for the members-elect of 19th Parliament, scheduled to begin this week, by Speaker of the outgoing Parliament, Qasim Ibrahim.
Details of the completed procedures and pending work were publicized through the book, launched on Sunday night.
During the ceremony, Qasim highlighted that many changes have been brought to the People’s Majlis for its new tenure for which members are to be sworn in on Tuesday. The changes, Qasim said, come with the full support and cooperation from President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s government.
He further said that they are working to install a screening system before the new tenure begins, under the supervision of the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF).
In addition, Qasim shed light on the many changes that have been brought to the parliament building within the past six months as well. Some of said changes include the addition of a conference system and changes brought to the television and camera systems.
During the ceremony, the features of the parliament’s new website were also shown. The new website is open to the public in order to ensure transparency, said Hassan Ziyau, Media Director.
He added that the new website will feature profiles of sitting members and will live-stream Majlis sessions as well as audio-stream committee meetings, as committees do not yet have video systems. Once such a system is established, committee meetings will also be live-streamed.
RaajjeMV also understands that a parliament mobile application through which sessions and committees may be streamed, will also be launched within the coming three months.
