Orientation for members-elect of 19th Parliament set for 26 May

The program aims at training members who got newly elected

The People’s Majlis have scheduled an orientation program to take place on 26 May, in commemoration of the 19th tenure of Parliament.

While the parliament holds an orientation before the commencement of every new tenure, this year’s orientation will take place on the night of 26 May.

The orientation aims at familiarizing the new members-elect in parliament procedures and training them for the commencement of their term and is held every five years, the last one having been held in May 2014.

During the program, members will be trained to use the voting system, mic system as well as familiarizing them with the Majlis chamber and make sure they have all the information right before they’re set to begin their five-year term.

The members-elect are to be sworn in at a special ceremony on 28 May, set to take place at 09:30pm. The ceremony will be overseen by MP for Meedhoo constituency, Ahmed Siyam.

Further, the People’s Majlis revealed that most of the work for the swearing-in ceremony have been completed.

The 19th Parliament will consist of 87 seats out of which 65 was won by main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).
