Out of all the cases received by the Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services in April, most are cases related to children.

The ministry’s statistics show that they had attended to a total of 206 cases out of which 113 are to do with child abuse.

Out of the 113, the most cases are to do with negligence which were recorded at 37.

Further, the ministry received 22 cases of child sexual abuse, 22 of physical abuse and 22 of mental abuse as well.

Five cases of children being witness to domestic violence were also received.

While four cases of neglecting children's shelter and four cases of obstructing educational rights were recorded, the ministry had also received one case of denying vaccination.

Earlier, Gender Minister Shidhatha Shareef had also expressed concern over the increasing number of cases of violence against children lately. She has since encouraged more awareness programs to be held across the country.
