SL authorities release four arrested Maldivians

Six were initially arrested last week

Sri Lankan authorities have on Monday released the four Maldivians arrested from Negombo in a search operation.

Some media outlets in the Maldives revealed that the four were released some time on Monday.

Some media outlets cited Maldives Ambassador to Sri Lanka Umar Abdul Razzaq confirming that the four Maldivian engineering students were arrested in Negombo after an air gun issued under a fake license was discovered in their residence during a raid by Lankan police last week.

A total of six Maldivians were arrested during the search operation conducted following the terror attacks in the country on Easter Sunday. The remaining two were remanded by Lankan police until 10 May.

President Maithripala Sirisena has said that every household in the country “will be checked” during their operation.

The Maldives embassy has advised Maldivians in the country to remain indoors during the curfew and obey the authorities.
