Following claims on social media linking Maldives to the terrorist attacks killing hundreds in Sri Lanka, the National Counter Terrorism Center also took to twitter writing that there is no truth to these claims. They went on to urge everyone to be “responsible” and to refrain from sharing such unverified information.
On Sunday evening, security was tightened across the Maldives after the string of terror attacks in Sri Lanka which began on Easter Sunday.
Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed had earlier revealed that there is “no immediate threat” to the Maldives, however, tightening security was important due to the current climate.
Commissioner Hameed also revealed that discussions are underway with the Sri Lankan authorities to ensure safety of Maldivian living in the country.
