Maldives Police Service (MPS) has arrested a 45-year-old attempting to smuggle drugs into Kaadedhdhoo island of Gaaf Dhaal atoll.

The 45-year old was arrested following an operation conducted by officers from Thinadhoo Police Station upon being tipped off. The arrest was made at around 10am on Wednesday at Kaadedhdhoo airport.

The drugs were being smuggled into Kaadedhdhoo via air route.

A packet, five capsules and two pieces of cellophane suspected to contain narcotic substances were confiscated from the man.

Thinadhoo Police Station has taken on investigations into the case.

MPS has confiscated a significant number of drugs in their operation to end drug trafficking this month alone. Earlier this month, police had confiscated 727 rubber packets suspected to contain drugs from a 40-year-old in capital city Malé as well.
