Parliament’s Public Finance Committee has decided to send the case of the state giving MVR 30 million to Business Image Group (BIG) to the Attorney General’s office for judicial review.
At the meeting on Tuesday, the committee decided to send the case to the AG office along with the letter they received from Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
In 2016, during President Abdulla Yameen’s administration, the Civil Court ordered the now defunct state media company, Maldives National Broadcasting Corporation (MNBC), to pay off its MVR 78 million debt to BIG, a private company.
Public Service Media (PSM) settled MVR 30 million of the total owed to BIG in February this year.
Thimarafushi MP Mohamed Mustafa has said that the Civil Court’s verdict was unlawful, as it was issued before the all legal procedures were complete.
