Thailand has implemented a 30-day visa exemption policy for Maldivian tourists.
The foreign ministry stated that the policy became effective on Sunday.
Travelers who are planning to use the visa exemption policy need to have a passport valid for at least six months, the Thailand Arrival Immigration Card, proof of funds for traveling, and proof that they will be leaving Thailand within 30 days.
While in Thailand on visa exemption, travelers can extend the exemption for an additional 30 days by applying for an extension at one of Thailand’s Immigration offices.
Nationals entitled to a visa exemption (non-ASEAN nations) are eligible to enter Thailand without visa through land border checkpoints only twice a calendar year, from 1 January to 31 December.
Any foreigner caught overstaying in Thailand will be detained and punished, however, any overstaying foreigner that leave Thailand without being caught will only face a fine and possible ban from re-entering Thailand when exiting through Immigration, and will not face any imprisonment or detainment.
Penalties for overstaying is 500 Baht per day, reaching a maximum fine of 20,000 Baht when overstaying 40 or more days. Anyone overstaying for 90 or more days will face the possibility of a ban from Thailand.
