Baarah recount results in seven extra votes for two candidates
ECM recounted the ballot boxes for the constituency due to a high number of invalid ballots

The ballot recount in Baarah constituency has resulted in an additional seven votes for two candidates who contested in Saturday’s parliamentary election, the Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) has said.

ECM recounted the ballot boxes for the constituency due to a high number of invalid ballots, which reaches 64, some of which have now been declared valid and allocated to the respective candidate.

According to ECM, the seven additional votes for each candidate came from one of three ballot boxes, while recount for the remaining two had not resulted in any change.

Ahmed Abdulla, the financial deputy chairperson for the Maldivian Democratic Party, had won the constituency seat against incumbent MP Ibrahim Shujau.

Abdulla received 1,524 votes while Shujau received 1,482 votes.

The ECM has done recounts for a number of constituencies, including Maamigili, Fonadhoo, and Maavah.
