Ministry seeks contractor to relocate Kalhuvakaru Mosque
Reassembling the Kalhuvakaru Mosque is part of the new government’s 100-day pledges

The Ministry of Finance has announced that they are seeking a contractor to relocate the Kalhuvakaru Mosque.

The government is seeking contractors through the National Competitive Bidding (NCB) process.

This project requires a bid security of MVR 15,000 and a MVR 500 registration fee. The bid opening will be on May 8, 11am and more information is available at the finance ministry’s website.

Reassembling the Kalhuvakaru Mosque is part of the new government’s 100-day pledges.

The heritage ministry has done maintenance and repairs on the mosque's parts and made drafts for its new location at Sultan Park.

Kalhuvakaru Mosque is a unique historic landmark built with coral stones that showcases traditional design work.

The Mosque was built in 1789 during the rule of Sultan Hassan Nooradeen Iskandhar. It stood on a coral foundation carved with intricate designs and was held up by wooden beams engraved with Arabic calligraphy.

In 2016, former President Abdulla Yameen’s government had dismantled the mosque to make way for renovations at Sultan Park, and had kept the parts in storage.
