Any state officials with ‘corrupt intent’ or a hidden agenda to misuse their position should resign immediately, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said.
Reiterating his administration’s stand against corruption in ‘all of its forms’, President Solih said that the public must remember why the government coalition was elected ‘in the first place’.
President Solih said that while he assumed office having made pledges to curb corruption and put an end to the prosecution of political dissidents, parliamentary majority for the government is imperative.
The president further said at Wednesday’s rally that corruption is ‘common place’ in government but steps have been taken to discourage, ‘and hopefully end’, it.
Solih, who represented his native Hinnavaru constituency seat in the People’s Majlis, said that parliamentarians elected for the ongoing term have collectively been least respectful of the rule of law.
The parliamentary election is scheduled for April 6th.
