President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has inaugurated the HA. Hoarafushi airport development project.

The President inaugurated the project in Hoarafushi on Sunday, as part of his trip to Thiladhunmathi atoll.

Speaking at the ceremony, President Solih assured the island residents that the airport will be completed, adding that the construction of the Uligamu City Hotel will increase job opportunities and expand the local tourism industry.

The Transport Ministry and Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) signed the project agreement on March 25.

MTCC Managing Director Hassan Shah told RaajjeMV that they are now bringing in the equipment and resources and that they will complete the land reclamation, runway, and terminal within 240 days.

Shah said the reason behind the fast progress of the airport is Ahmed Saleem, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s parliamentary candidate for Hoarafushi.

Shah praised Saleem’s work to complete the Environmental Impact Assessment and obtain permission for the project.

The Hoarafushi airport will allow for easier travel to the northern most parts of Maldives, including to Ihavandhoo, Thuraakunu, and Uligamu.
