More than 200 fishermen have opened Bank of Maldives (BML)’s Masdhoani Accounts.
Masdhoani Account is a financial scheme that offers fishermen a Masveriyaa Card and digital wallet to conduct financial transactions.
Granting fishermen easier access to online banking services is part of the government’s 100-day agenda.
At a special event to celebrate the government’s 90th day anniversary on Thursday, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih said that people working in fisheries and agriculture now have easier access to loan and credit schemes.
President Solih said that the government has also removed the diesel duty for fishermen and the import duty for imported agricultural items and equipment.
Masveriya Card is an MVR prepaid card issued to fishermen in which fish purchasing companies can transfer the full payment and in turn the captain can distribute the funds among other fishermen of the vessel through BML MobilePay. Other services are also available via the Masveriya Card.
