The Maldives Police Service (MPS) has begun preparations for the upcoming People’s Majlis election, slated for April 6th.
Police Commissioner Mohamed Hameed said at a press conference on Thursday that officers have begun meetings with the Elections Commission.
Officers will be stationed at all polling places, in the Maldives and abroad.
Elections Commission chief Ahmed Shareef said that the support of the MPS has been key to upholding peaceful voting in past elections.
Past elections in the Maldives have been peaceful, with little incident.
Officers are stationed throughout voting day, during vote counting, and assist in transporting ballot papers.
