Civil Court has ordered Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) to return Corporal Ahmed Shaaneez to his post.

In a tweet, his attorney Nazim Sattar said the court has also ordered that Shaaneez, the former bodyguard of former First Lady Laila Ali, be given MVR 189,000 in compensation.

Civil Court had also received a case regarding the dismissal of the military’s Special Protection Group (SPG) members Simad Ahmed and Ahmed Fahthah.

In march 2018, they were arrested on the orders of the Supreme Court and were later dismissed. They appealed the Civil Court to return them to their posts after the new government came to power.

MNDF was ordered return Simad to his post in February, while Fahthah’s case is still in court.

Shaaneez, who was also in the SPG, was initially given a notice for a job change, however was later notified that he has been dismissed for violating the military’s disciplinary code. His case was resolved at the dispute resolution stage.
