36 foreign observers to watch April's parliamentary election
A total of 386 candidates are competing in the 87 constituencies in the parliamentary election

A total of 36 international observers will be in the Maldives to observe April’s parliamentary elections, says Elections Commission (EC).

It said that 36 delegates from four countries and nine organizations will act as observers at the elections, with representatives from four media organizations.

A total of 386 candidates are competing in the 87 constituencies in the parliamentary election.

While opportunity to sign the voters’ list was open from Sunday to Tuesday, only 218 candidates (or representatives) had done so.

264,589 are eligible to vote in the elections scheduled for April 6.

A total of 501 ballot boxes are to be placed for the election, both in the country and abroad.
