Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj has met with Maldives parliament speaker Qasim Ibrahim.
Minister Swaraj met with speaker Qasim after arriving in the Maldives on Sunday on a two-day official visit.
During the meeting, they discussed the upcoming parliamentary election.
The parliament cited Minister Swaraj saying that India is always ready to provide assistance to the Maldives and that she expects that the relations between the neighboring nations will prosper due to her visit.
At the meeting, Qasim highlighted the decades-long close ties between the countries and, on behalf of the Maldivian people, thanked the Indian government for their help in developing the country.
