President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has received a warm welcome upon his arrival in Addu City on Friday.
This is his first visit to the southernmost city since assuming office.
President Solih and former President Mohamed Nasheed are in Addu to inaugurate the campaigns of the parliamentary candidates of main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).
Addu candidates, city council members, and supporters welcomed them at the Gan Airport, and President Solih spent around 30 minutes shaking hands with them.
President Solih and Nasheed, the MDP leader, first visited the campaign site in Maradhoo-Feydhoo. Speaking to the locals, President Solih said it was important for MDP to win all Addu seats and parliament majority, and that the party has already formulated a development plan for Addu.
Nasheed said that Maradhoo-Feydhoo candidate Rozaina Adam has been involved in the country’s reform work since the beginning and that there is no other candidate like her.
MDP’s parliamentary campaign for Addu City was launched on Friday night at Maradhoo Park.
