Maldives Police Service statistics for the first two months of this year reveals a five percent increase in the number of reported crime, compared to the same period in 2018.
A total of 2,193 cases have been reported to the police in January and February, while 2,081 cases were reported for the two months last year.
Traffic violations are included in this number, and 373 such cases were reported in the last two months.
The number sexual offences reported have reduced, from 1,192 cases reported in January and February last year to 1,115 cases reported for the same period this year.
634 theft related cases were reported in the last two months, while 105 cases of battery have been reported.
