Six people from W Construction have been charged over the death of Rawshan Jian.

Eight-year-old Jian died after succumbing to injuries after being crushed by a falling cement bag at a construction site last December.

The police service concluded its investigation and forwarded the case to the Prosecutor General (PG) office in early February.

The PG office has charged Indian national Rajjav Ali with criminal negligence for carelessness while operating the winch lift that had caused the cement bag to fall off. If found guilty, he faces a six-year prison sentence.

Indian national Muthumani Ramachandhuran is also charged with criminal negligence and Indian nationals Keshariral Chauhan and Gulan Mahamadhu are charged with failure to warn a person of a hazard. If found guilty, they face a one-month and six-day sentence.

W Construction’s senior site supervisor Moosa Hassan and managing director Adam Shafeeq are charged with criminal negligence for failure to secure their construction site as senior officials. If found guilty, they face a prison sentence of one year, seven months, and six days.
