Maldives Police Service has arrested two individuals in a drug bust in Thinadhoo and Kudahuvadhoo islands.
The operation was conducted by Thinadhoo Police Station upon a tip-off that drugs and narcotics were being used in the islands.
Officers arrested a 42-year-old man on Monday night, from a boat docked in Thinadhoo harbor. Police revealed that the man had ran off into the boat upon sighting the officers and that he had thrown away the drugs in his possession.
Police had however confiscated the items following which they found six rubber packets suspected to be packed with narcotic substances.
In addition, officers also arrested a 27-year-old man in Kudahuvadhoo island in Dhaalu atoll.
Officers were tipped off following which they conducted a search during which the man was arrested on the road. He had 11 rubber packets suspected to contain narcotic substances, on him at the time.
Both the 42-year-old and the 27-year-old have been remanded by 15 days.
This comes at a time police have arrested two others in a drug bust in Addu City the same day. One of the two was arrested in Feydhoo district while the other was arrested in Maradhoo district.
