Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid has been meeting with his counterparts and high-level delegates of other nations in Geneva.
The Foreign Minister travelled to Geneva on Monday to join the 40th Session of the Human Rights Council.
On the sidelines of the event, Minister Shahid met with the Australian Foreign Minister Marise Payne and discussed Australia’s ongoing technical cooperation with Maldives and avenue’s for further corporation.

During his meeting with Madame Michelle Bachelet, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Minister Shahid reassured Maldives’ commitment to human rights and discussed further cooperation with the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, including the placement of a Human Rights Advisor in the Maldives.

Minister Shahid met Norway’s Foreign Minister Ine Marie Eriksen Søreide to discuss the vulnerability of small island states and their need for representation at bigger platforms.

Minister Shahid and Lord Ahmad of Wimbledon discussed Maldives’ international engagement and its efforts to rejoin the Commonwealth and the development bilateral ties.

The Minister also met Frank Bainimarama, Prime Minister of Fiji.
