The police service is now investigating a case of opposition members assaulting RaajjeTV journalist Dhaanish Nizam.
The incident occurred when Dhaanish was covering the gathering of supporters of former President Abdulla Yameen at Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) on Wednesday when he was admitted at the cardiac center.
The police media officer confirmed they are investigating the case of some of the supporters assaulting Dhaanish at the hospital.
Dhaanish has said that the assailants pushed him and the cameramen away from the cardiac center and hit them on the back multiple times while trying to damage their camera.

Video footage also shows Yameen supporters threatening and verbally abusing Dhaanish.
Yameen supporters had caused a disturbance at the hospital, compelling police officers to use pepper spray to disperse the crowd.
In a later statement, the police service highlighted that gatherings are illegal at hospitals and that officers used pepper spray after Yameen supporters failed to obey repeated warnings to refrain from trying to enter the cardiac center all at once.
