Opposition Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM)’s Parliamentary Group leader Ahmed Nihan Hussain Manik is to be summoned to the police headquarters.
He is being summoned over the obstruction of police officers during a protest held at Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) by former President Abdulla Yameen’s supporters.
The summons chit received by Nihan reads that he is being summoned for questioning for having obstructed the work of a law enforcement officer on duty.
He is to present himself to police HQ at 8:30 pm on Friday.
A video clip circulating on social media shows the former Parliament member placing a rock under a police vehicle throughout the protest on Wednesday night which was later dispersed by officers with the use of pepper spray.
The protest in question was stirred by supporters of the former President after he was brought to the hospital for treatment from Maafushi Prison, where he is being detained.
MPS had used pepper-spray to disperse the crowds as they had been demonstrating, since they had ignored multiple warnings.
