Former President Abdulla Yameen has been admitted for 24 hours at the cardiology ward, states Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital.

The former president was hospitalized on Wednesday evening.

The hospital’s media official told RaajjeMV that he will be admitted for 24 hours starting Wednesday evening, but did not disclose exactly what he is being treated for.

At a hearing held on Monday, Yameen disclosed that he has been treating a back problem. However, the Criminal Court chief judge ordered that he be detained for the rest of his trial over state money-laundering charges, as resquested by the prosecutor general's office over accusations of witness tampering.

RaajjeMV was unable to get a comment from the correctional service on Yameen’s hospital transfer since the information officer did not pick up his phone.

Also, on Wednesday, police officers used pepper spray to disperse the crowd of Yameen supporters gathered inside the hospital.
